Makita EA5600. Cat muffler or not?

I have a Makita EA5600, wondering if it has a catalytic converter muffler? Muffler is pretty discoloured, wondering if it needs opening up a little in the interests of getting rid of some heat. Have it four stroking before the cut etc. Has now had about 10 tanks through it. I'm in New Zealand...

    Makita EA5600 vs Stihl MS291

I'm in NZ, $1200 for an MS291 here, roughly $2400 for a 661. Probably a few hundred less in Australia.

    Makita EA5600 vs Stihl MS291

Hi guys, what's the pros and cons of these 2 saws? Makita is also German made, slightly better power on paper than the Stihl, and is the newer design, damned nice looking saw I think. Looks good in videos on YouTube. Equal quality to Stihl? Makita I can get here (New Zealand) for $950, MS291...

Safe to hang your saws from the bar for storage?

Actually just seen another idea of hanging them from their handles..probably a better way to go...of course I didn't think of that....

Safe to hang your saws from the bar for storage?

Wondering if its safe (as in won't damage the saw) to hang your saws from the bar for storage? Some of my saws have a hole in the bar near the tip where the bars get hung from in shops etc..can the whole saw be hung this way attached to the bar? Obviously don't want to risk damaging the saw or...

New MS661 or 395xp, what do I pick?

Just my 2c worth, but I've recently dropped, and ringed up a huge, 80 year old Pine here in New Zealand, using my 661 with a 42 inch bar. The saw has the power to do it, but after a few hours I stripped it down to clean bar grooves, saw etc and for a really good sharpen, and noticed the clutch...

    European brand chain saws?

I'm in New Zealand, and am a big fan of Oleo Mac, made by Efco. I'm normally a Stihl guy, but in my opinion the Oleo Mac are every bit as good as Stihl and Husky, although they seem slightly heavier. My main Oleo Mac now I'm using is the GS 650, a 65cc saw, pro build, damned good saw which runs...

    Ok, great, thanks for that.

May I ask you bar gurus to help with this please?

The Oleo Mac runs 0.058 and my Stihl bar and chain is 0.063. So would need to replace rim sprocket too.

May I ask you bar gurus to help with this please?

can buy adapters here for Husky to Stihl, but the oleo mac runs a different pitch, plus the adapter may not work with Oleo Mac? I might ring the shop who sells these to ask, cheers

May I ask you bar gurus to help with this please?

Okay. Have an Oleo Mac GS650 Need to buy a 20 inch bar, been quoted $150 here in NZ, but I'm wondering if its interchangeable with say Husky? 3/8 0.058 Attached is are 2 photos of my longer 24 inch original Oleo Mac bar, hopefully some of you clued up people may be able to identify what bar...

What causes a guide bar to chip bits off near the sprocket?

My Oleo Mac GS650 is chipping tiny bits of bar off just above and behind the sprocket. After a few hours use today, it left a jagged bit ready to chip off. I keep my chains tensioned okay, not too tight, but able to be turned by hand, use proper bar lube, and keep the bar clean, by cleaning...

    Interesting looking clutch bearing

Hi all, no it does not idle much, and I keep it sharp, so not loading it up or pushing hard on it, but yes, the clutch drum is discoloured too. The bearing is dry cos I'd just washed it out in gas. I am meticulous about keeping the chain very sharp, and bar groove/oil hole clean, although it...

    MS661CM air filter question/issue.

My 661 fills its filter pretty quickly, I'll often tap it out to get rid of the worst of it every 3rd or 4th tank. Standard black Stihl filter, impressed though because under the filter is spotless, does a good job of trapping the crap.

    Chain Sharpening issue...driving me nuts!

thanks for that, yep no need to push so damned hard..these are the same type of people that rev the saw when its running out of gas...like its magically going to refuel......

    Chain Sharpening issue...driving me nuts!

I agree, something about a hand filed chain, maybe I'm behind the times but my chains seem to last a little longer than some mates who use the electric chain sharpeners, don't seem to stay sharp any longer either..and they don't get to enjoy the painful cuts on their fingers either from a hand...
