New splittler build-does cylinder type matter

I use a tie rod cylinder as I got a heck of a deal on it. With that being said when it's time to replace I want to go to a 5" welded cylinder. The cylinder now is a 4" bore with 30" stroke.

My homemade log splitter with conveyor

I believe they are 5/8". The main wedge is 3/4"

My homemade log splitter with conveyor

It had a thin edge you can see wher in kind of rolled over but we took a grinder to and took the thin edge off..

My homemade log splitter with conveyor

I love it! I was going to make an add on 4 way so we decided to weld wings on it to see if our splitter could handle it, and it's been on ever since. If one gets stuck which rarely happens I put either a wedge or my maul in from of the pusher plate until the wood starts to split and then pull it...

My homemade log splitter with conveyor

Thanks.. It has been a lot of fun to build.. My friend and I put a lot of thought in building it and have had to go backwards on some things.. I'm sure glad I put a 28 gpm pump and a 20 hp Koehler on it! I want a 5" cylinder on it someday..

My homemade log splitter with conveyor

Here is a pic of my splitter. It's mainly from parts laying around. It needs fenders, the job crane we started making, box in the end of the beam and paint. Plus my diamond plate tool box! It's not a good pic though..

log splitter build: wedge or pushplate?

I went with a pusher plate as it's easier to split on the end and have it fall on the table as hold it as it falls, if your going with a log lift. I have used both and the pusher was a better option for me as I wanted a 4 way option and a 6 way ( I haven't made the 6 way yet). Either way think...

    Acme Boiler

Check out outdoor wood boiler info forum, there is a section on there about ACME boilers and not too many people are happy with them. My neighbor has had one about a year and really likes it! I have looked it over and it seems to be as good as some others. I have a Hardy and like it a little...

My homemade log splitter with conveyor

Awesome! I too built a splitter and have been wanting to add a conveyor. I have been wanting to paint it but it's been function for 2 years and I haven't gotten to it. I think a conveyor and a dump truck or trailer would be the answer...

    add on furnace vs owb

Some people won't ever get it! We all burn wood and we should be on the same side. I went through having total electric to burning in a Wood stove in the basement to a forced air in the basement. Then came the OWB. Best money ever spent! Like everyone else says consistent heat all through out...

    Log Splitter Beam Question.

I would use H beam or square tubing. I used a I beam and it works awesome other than fabing up the pusher plate on the under side of the rails. After a few attempts we finally got it but if we build another we won't use an I beam..

My brother has one and I had one for a bit, he loads it with as much as will fit even sits a small piece on the door frame. He can get it to last all night. Me on the other hand couldn't get line burns so I bought an OWB!!!! Best money ever

Sthil 038 super or Sthil ms 310?

That's kind of how I feel! I know a couple of people that have the same owb as me and use a 250. I just hate to make a mistake but ill run it and see what I think

Sthil 038 super or Sthil ms 310?

Ok I really hate to give up a magnum! I know it's getting older though! I think I'll try the 310 and go from there. A guy I work with has a plastic welder, do you think that would be a strong enough fix?
