ok carbon chain been rule out. ok i been told by a chainsaw miller, that he use's 404 .063 harvest chain. instead of 404 .063 ripping chain. He told me it cuts the same and is a lot cheaper. Dose any of you milling masters heard this ? Have any of you done this? Would i hurt my new 088?

joemarty wants to be a master too.

G'day,

Sorry but Im gonna slam that idea too!! Oregon says not to do it -
"Chains for mechanical-harvester applications are not to be used in hand-held chain saw applications".
So does Carlton.
My guess is that the depth gauges are taken way down, as you wouldnt have to worry about the kickback potential using a harvestor - the bar is 10' (?) from you!! And it looks like the outside top plate angles are a lot less than the 30-35 deg on normal crossut chain.
HOWEVER, thinking about it, if your only use is ripping, then it could be OK. Id still like to get the specs/angles first though, especially the depth gauge setting.
Any one out there used a harvester?? We need your input!
Cheers
Charlie.
