I have a Poulan 2300, 16" chain saw experiencing a new problem. Problem started while using saw started losing power, saw then quit. Upon trying to restart saw, it would run for 1-2 seconds, then stop. Unable to get it restarted. Fuel line appears unclogged, carberatuor doesn't appear dirty. I'm perplexed. Can anybody help?

Howdy,

Rather sounds like a fuel problem. First try to start by normal procedure, then pull the spark plug and inspect. If dry, you have confirmed a fuel problem. This is bypassing a lot of proper diagnostic procedure, but might do the job in your case.

If the plug is dry, you have a plugged fuel system and rather profoundly. Next step would be to check the fuel pickup filter, and then the little filter screen inside your carburetor. Can you suck fuel through the fuel line as disconnected from the carb? If so the problem is the screen inside the carburetor. Please note that these checks are the quick and dirty poor man's diagnostic. Depending on the results, however, we can tell where to go next.

Did you store the machine with fuel in the system?

If it has an external impulse line, you need to check it for cracks
or tears, a weak spot on many of these Electrolux saws.
