Hello everyone, I am hoping someone with a bit of Stihl expertise can help me out here.

I recently picked up a used bar from someone who was parting out an old Stihl 076 saw in the hopes of putting it on my 070. “I tried to just get the whole saw from him but he wasn’t quite willing to let it go just yet. I’ll keep working on him”. The bar that I got has some numbers stamped on the side of it that read...

STIHL 3 .77
3002 001 9553

And the tip has .404 stamped on it.

I have tried to look the numbers up to see what length of chain it takes and if it is .063 or not. I also need to either find a replacement tip for it with rivets or a new nose sprocket with rivers because two of the sprocket teeth are missing. I measured the bar with a tape and it comes out to 39 7/8” total length so I’m thinking it’s either a 36” or a 40” bar. The nose sprocket has 9 teeth and is fastened with a 4 rivet pattern.

If anyone has any thoughts on where I can get the parts for this bar that I need or what chain this thing takes I would really appreciate it. I will attempt to post a couple pics of the bar on here from my phone.

That bar you have was made 3.1977 and is no longer availible since 1986. This bar was replaced with 3002 000 9753 (Rollomatic ES bar)

Your bar is a 36" .404 bar, groove is .63 and it uses a chain with 108 drive links. The tip of the replacement 3002 000 9753 bar has 12teeth and is part no. 3003 650 2538. I think you can also use it for your old one.

Good info, thanks a bunch for the insight. I was a little concerned that the larger tooth sprocket on the replacement tips would mean that the new tip wouldn’t match up to the contour of the bar.
