I want to shorten a stihl RSN bar to a size they don’t offer. I came across this site that does it from the tail end on some laminated bars:

Wouldn’t it be easier to shorten from the tip end and rivet a new nose on? Has anyone ever done this? Seems like at this point you are only cutting out the proper pattern and don’t have to worry about any mount/adjust/oiler holes, tail stock forming or cutting of chain grooves

Cut it right in the middle, remove some of the length. The height will be a match that way. Put a copper strip in the slot or groove for the drive links perhaps use a lower temp rod in that area. Nickel or bronze. If you cut the nose the height will not match the replaceable nose. Just for conversation.
