It just came to me. The best ever has to be the Solo Twin. Sounds so much like the Yamaha Banshee sand monster I used to have.

Can't forget the Wankel rotary powered Dolmar KMS-4 either.

OMG that SOLO TWIN sounds amazing when he is reving it. Best sound I've heard so far.

To me the best sounding saw at idle and at speed is a Mac 10-10 with the exhaust reed removed.

Great tone, loud, and it has what I call a "classic" chainsaw sound. When you hear one out in the woods you think "somebody's running a chainsaw!"

One of the cooler sounding saws I have is the old Echo 702VL, the exhaust tone is pretty tame and quiet but the pto bearing area makes a sound very much like a gear drive timing set on a SB Chevrolet engine, or a belt driven blower.

I like the sound of this Poulan...

As far as Big Macs in the cut it don't get much sweeter than this...

Mac 610 Has a Sound of Its Own

Any Big 'ol MAC

I have to agree. I love my new MS 361, but that old Mac 610 has a sound of its own--wide open at full throttle or just idling, waiting to do its thing and growling like a mean lion waiting to pounce.

Very cool, that thing is fast.

Wow! What can you say to that!

The old Macs or Homelite from the fifties and sixties. When you heard a couple of those in the old growth you knew there was work getting done.

The newer saws are better in every way...but they sound like an oven timer going off.

It's the oldies that do it though. The ones that rev a bit slower but more purposeful.
