Are the after market dual port mufflers for the MS460 OK or should I attempt to buy an OEM part? Is it best to buy a complete muffler or just the dual port cover?
Hit up your dealer for the DP cover. Shouldn't be more than 30 bucks plus tax.

it is so simple and free to mod the factory muffler and flow more air then the dual port cover.
a few drillbits a drill and about 30 minutes of your time.
if you dont have the tools im sure a buddy or maybe girlfriend does maybe the wife can get a hold of these tools.
30 bucks to me is waste of money when this is so gosh darn easy to do. its just metal think of like wood, you just gota get it outa the way.
this is three 3/8" holes
if you had a dremel this could be opend up much more.. you could even drill abunch of 1/8" holes if thats the biggest drill bit you have.
remove the spark screen so it doesnt get damaged. remove the muffler from the saw to. a vice would be nice to hold the muffler while drilling but not necesarry
It can be fun... not knockin' it.
But I'd rather have the factory dual port than a stock cover with a bunch of cobbled up holes drilled in it...
But again... that's just me.

LOL
my dealers DP cover is ridiculous. If your a hack then buy the cover, if you have some skill then do it yourself. Sometimes it takes some messing with, its only metal.

Gotta agree with gary that a cobbled muff mod really turns me off. But a nice on like mine really looks good and I can tune it to run and sound the way I like it!
I like to port the pistons and cylinders, mod the mufflers and carbs etc, also like to keep them stock appearing...
Those muffler mods look all great an stuff but how often do you guys cut in the summer? Ill stick with the factory cover because you dont all the exhaust and heat blowing in you face. The whole mod thing dont mean that much to me only that the saw cuts a cuts better.
