Whoa!

It seems when you see these vids it always starts with a ladder. Did he have it tied off so it could'nt hit the building or what?

Man that leg was just flapping in the wind, eh? That one actually turned the ole stomach a little. That had to be very painful. I smashed a fingertip off with a 3lb hammer in 20° weather last year and the pain was unbearable. All I could do was jump up and down.

My boss always tells me that being safe will get you hurt, being unsafe will get you killed.

I had to go back for a second look to really see it.

Still can't figure out why it did'nt fall. I thought he might have had it tied off so it would'nt hit that building. Either that or a limb hung it up.

He roped it without thinking it might swing back on him.

An old guy that I know always tells me with limbs like that either 1) get higher than the limb as they don't kick up or if you can't do that 2) cut it keeping the tree in between you and the limb (reach around with just the saw exposed) so if it kicks back it hits the tree and not you. Does anyone else have any tricks or knowledge on this subject so that we may learn from this guy's hard mistake?

I think he should have just cut and let it drop.If it needs roping then it likely becomes a pro job.

Nasty stuff. I bet it hurt more pushing the tree off his leg after he broke it, then when the tree was cut.

I didn't watch the whole thing, got as far as ditching the saw.

There is a delayed effect following an impact, while the brain figures out what the hell just happened. I have had three impacts that broke bones, thankfully no compounds.
