got a new fuel line and tank vent in this morn and got her up and running. in the vid she is eating some 8" oak. i have to say she will smoke the cs-310,, they are the same weight and cc.. i am running a 14" b/c on the 170,,43 gauge picco,,,,, i am impressed with it,, cuts much faster then the cs-310.. ok,,,question,, does it sound ok or is it a tad lean? at idle it seems to me ok and at WOT it just starts to 4 stroke. reason i am asking is that way i know if i need to open the carb back up and set the metering lever up just a tad. this is a fixed jet carb.... here is the pic of it complete and also a vid in oak....ohhh yea,,,this is a 2005 model and it has the orginal bar on it.....AND NO COMMENTS ABOUT MY LEGS:hmm3grin2orange::hmm3grin2orange:

.....AND NO COMMENTS ABOUT MY LEGS

We wouldn't have to if you were wearing anything resembling PPE ..... ;)

At least yer wearing a shirt, unlike some of the royalty runnin' around here.

BTW, saw sounds pretty good, even for a Stihl.

:yoyo:

That sounds like a good saw. I just put a new piston and rings in mine and it doesn't run as well as yours. Mines kind of sluggish on the throttle. Hopefully it'll break in.

Ahh yes, I love my little MS170. I'll shoot ya some MS170 rep tomorrow. looks good.

i am glad i am not the only one that really likes the 170,,,,,, i have my eye on a new 260 at teh stihl dealer,,, been on the shelf for over a year now,,,,i drool over that saw every time i go in there

nice work! repped

I've cut more...anything...with my 170 than all other saws combined...love the little guy:rock:

...

:msp_scared: uh...I think I smell the big tree fallers comin'

Nice work!

Love the vid and the saw.

Is it just me? I can't hear the 4-stroke on the unloaded WOT. I'm thinking it's a tad lean????

I like them a little richer on the high end.

Looks just as gutless as mine, good for up to 4" wood, it is light.. It's hard to adjust a carb with no high adjuster or is this one adjustable, if so give it more fuel on high. Steve

this one is completely sealed,,fixed jets,,,, it isn't gutless,, thats what happens when you shove it in 8" inches of solid oak,,, i pushed it to the limits,,,,,,it will be a great saw for smaller limbing,,,,, i closed the exhaust vents up a little and now it is a bit richer,,

You're more patiance than me 20 seconds or so in a 8 " cut, though that is some solid wood not the marshmellow wood I've seen on here way to much. It does sound lean but is smoking quite a bit when cutting so it should be OK, for sure if just used for smaller wood. Not many saws are lighter . Steve

The little 170's-180's sure don't get the respect they deserve on here. I think they are excellent for the money. Easily five times the saw as a "wild thing". Well worth the 179.00 that they bring around here new on sale. I've got a little 180 we have abused the hell out of and it just keeps going. Over the five or six years we've had it, the saw sure doesn't owe us a dime. If it blows tomorrow, I'll have no gripes.

Just because they are home owner quality, and cheap, they get no respect on here. I'd have no problem recommending one for the use they are designed for, and they exceed their design limitations all the time.
I've got a very handicapped relative, very crippled, who will piddle around and whittle up 30" dia stuff with his little 170, he's got all the time in the world, doesn't push the saw or himself.

i do agree,,,i don't think it will get much use each year since it is my wifes saw,,,,, i might see 4-5 tanks a year,,,,the way i look at it,,,she REALLY likes it,, much better then the cs-310 she has,,,thats why i put the 310 on fleabay yesterday to sell it,,,,,, i thnk this weekend i a going to run a couple of tanks through it to see how it does,,, i might have to open the carb to richen it up some,,,but this morn i fired it cold and it ran fantastic cold,,so i know it isn't to lean

I have a 180 and was suprised at how gutsy it is . My saw smokes even when hot and drools oil residue out the muffler so i asume it is running rich. the only thing i dont like is that the dealer had this saw with the easy chain ajuster wheel and seams to collect more chips and oil in the clutch cover . I thought i may get the stock clutch cover setup.
