The proper way to pronounce Poulan is PO (rhymes with so) lan (land with no D). The first syllable is hard (emphasis) and the second syllable is soft. Yes, I did meet Mr. Poulan and regularly saw his younger brother here on a professional basis.

Don't go trying to pull that BS around here!
We all know the only thing NORTH about you, is your address......................and THAT may be just temporary!!!:D

Jeeze, I hate it when you might be right.

Husky bar on Poulan or Vice Versa

Trying to simplify with keeping my chains in order. I have a Husky Rancher running a 3/8 72 link chain, and a C-man 3800, and PP 330 running 3/8 70 link chain. Can I switch over my 3800 and 330 to run the Husky bar and 72 link chain? Or would it be better to run the Poulan (70 link) bars on my Husky? It seems like the 3/8 72 link chains are easier to come by so I leaning towards that switch if possible.

The short answer is no. The bars are not the same mount. Chain length is more of a saw sprocket location deal than a bar width deal. Try a 72 link chain on the Poulans, its not going to have much, if any adjustment. Any chain can be made up. You can order loops from several sources at either length.

My normal answer to a question involving a Husky is to eliminate the Husky. You may be able to solve this problem with a 16 penny nail, or a drywall screw, or another garage to hang loops in/on.

If none of those options work, you can modify a K095 mount (Husky) to fit your 330 by simply filing the adjuster holes towards the chain so the oil can get to the chain; look at your K041 mount on the 330 for an example. The 3800 and its D176 mount is also very close to the K095, but obviously different, hence the different styles.

But the correct bar thing and another nail is the route I would stay on.

Pronounciation

Boy, we Aussies have it wrong. The fallers who used them here in the NE of Victoria in the 70's and 80's called them Purr-lans with the emphasis on the purr. I still say it that way - silly me.
Hey, do you think this is an 8500? My boy picks it up tomorrow and I won't see it for a week or two - but I have my fingers crossed.

It's either a 6900, 7700 or 8500, Al. AFAIK there's no way of telling with the decal being in the condition it's in other than measuring the bore. Sorry. I don't have the bore measurements. Congrats on your find though.

Mustang, thanks for that info. I asked the old guy what model it was on the phone and he said he did not know but he read out the seriel number and it ended in 8500-3. That is why I am hoping!

That would be cool if that gives you info on the model #. My 7700's serial # is C1050025, so it doesn't tell anything about the model.

Whichever of the three it turns out to be...I would be tickled! I hgot a chance to run 67Mustangs 7700, and it ain't no slouch...:msp_thumbsup: In either case, it will be a dandy hard to come by Purrr-lan.

Gregg,

Thanks fellows, I probably used up all my luck buying my 4900 when it was advertised as a 49cc saw. Anyway the seller says it is a good goer so perhaps I have a little karma left. Can't blame a man for
dreaming.

Around here you'd probably have a greater chance of it being an 8500. I've seen more of those available than the other two.
