Aftermarket bearings for Stihl 026

Can someone tell me if these are available for the crank bearings for an 026? Looked on Northwood and they don't show crank bearings for this saw. Bailey's site is really slow for me right now so I can't check there. Are these Stihl only or has anyone used aftermarket?
 
i have bought bearings from china and germany and every time the clutch side is FAG,only once has the flywheel side been marked china ,the rest of the time they have been name brands

Do you have a pic of this bearing? I'd be interested in seeing why....it's Stihl only.

I wonder why. It would seem to be an added cost in having a bearing manufacturer tool up to make a special bearing. Could they not just design around a standard size?

Because as shown in splitposts' pics, there's a lip on the outer side of the bearing for the oil seal. There's no place on the clutch side of a lot of Stihl saws to mount the oil seal. The sad thing is, FAG and SNR were/are the main contractors that make the "proprietary" clutch side bearings for Stihl.

The "regular" bearing for the flywheel side on the 026 is a 6002 series C3 rated standard bearing. You can get these from any bearing/industrial supply house. Typically these are 9mm wide which is just a hair wider than the 8.5mm bearing that Stihl uses. However, there's room in the case for it.
 
The 26 that I picked up has a bad clutch side bearing. It's rough and grinding. I was hoping to go aftermarket on these but it doesn't look like.

Use at your own risk, they're Chinese so I'm sure they aren't the same quality as OEM...
These bearings do have the lip on the clutch bearing for the seal.
The Chinese sure do copy everything, don't they??

Is there any chance of using a regular bearing and a seal with a larger OD of that of size of the bearing? Would there be any case left to fit a seal?

No. The only way that's possible is to use a much narrower bearing with the same I.D. and O.D. There are such bearings available,
but they cost much more than the proprietary Stihl bearing. So you would lose both in terms of cost and performance.
 
A lot of times its a toss up if a person should just find another good bottom end to toss rest of your parts on vs buying a new stihl proprietary bearing and a seal kit. However, even if cost isn't an issue...having the knowledge or tools to put in a new bearing is usually a bigger issue. I have the Stihl tools which work really good, but its not very cost effective for the guy doing one personal saw.

It is hard to justify chasing major problems on a saw in that price range.
 
Most of the time when I build my personal saws, I don't mind using aftermarket. I'll stop by my dealer and see how much they are going to charge me for the bearnings. I thought I would ask about aftermarket to gain more knowledge. Thanks for the help and support.

So.....How much does the OEM bearing protrude beyond the case....(probably the thickness of the seal...)?

I want to find a way to beat Stihl at their proprietary parts that should be off the shelf!

Are they still using this proprietary bearing/seal combo in their current saws?
