I have a new Dolmar 5105 and the adjustment needles are pluged. What do you do if you want to set the saw a little richer.

dig out the epoxy around the screws and go on with your business.

heat will soften it.

I wondered if it could be dug out, I will give it a try, may take a little time but would be worth it to have control of my saws carb instead of the EPA. controling it. Thanks!

started digging this evening 1/2 hr and found the high side needle I tried a electric sodiering gun will try a micro torch or maybe a dremel tool with a small drill bit. I will give a update when I know more.

The needles are encased in an aluminum coffin and then filled with epoxy. you need to carefully cut the coffin and peel it off. then you can chip off the epoxy. The epoxy goes all the way to the springs. you will never get it just drilling.

Replace it with a 346xp or 550xp! ;)

Come on now, Niko! Even the 346xp has problems, otherwise nmurph wouldn't be getting so many of them to play with and then sell.

Plus not everyone likes them either. The OP has a legitimate question with his saw and asks for advice on how to fix it, either be helpful or stay away.

Perhaps every thread where someone has a problem with his Husky I should opine that they should've bought a Dolmar 5105 instead just because I like mine.

Edit: Here is a case in point. Just imagine, someone having troubles with the new Husqvarna auto-tune saws.

How much would I be helping telling them that they should have just got Dolmar's equivalent size saws?

To others that might be reading this post and the OP.

I've had a few of the epoxy carbs come threw the shop now. I've found the best way to get them off is to remove the carb from the saw. then use my dremel with a small carbide bit that I got at home depot. The carbide bit will cut the coffin and the epoxy out. the heat will help to remove the little bits later after the majority is removed. Here is a link to the tungsten carbide burr i use...
Dremel® Teal Tungsten Carbide Cutter, 35000 rpm, 1/8 in (Diameter), 1/8 in (Diameter) Shank | Staples®

if you have a really steady hand you can clean up all the little bits with an even smaller burr

I was considering a dolmar, now not so much.:msp_mad:

yeah don't let this foil your plan. Just about every saw in the last 10-12 years has problems due to EPA regs. Just get a used saw in good shape and do the modifications you find on here and you'll have an awesome saw to run.

Just make sure the one you are getting doesn't have the epoxied carb screws. Depending on the dealer, some have models that have sat for a bit.

Plus if you're getting a used one the epoxy issue is a non-starter as it's only recent. None of my saws, which are mostly 2007 - 2010 models, have epoxy.

Wrong, far from all saws have such problems, but the EPA surely has had an impact.....

:msp_mad:Wow, there are some crazy EPA tamper-proofing but this takes the cake! How in the world would a dealer or technician adjust the carb? Most of the EPA stuff just make for an inconvenience to get them adjustable but this one is crazy - but surely it can be worked around.
