How big a saw to keep in car/truck?

I keep a 201T w/ 16" bar. You only need a couple of cuts to clear a path and it packs in tightly. Anything any bigger and I'm not moving the rounds by hand anyway...let someone else take care of it or call the crew in for when i am on a line or jobsite.

It popped on the 4th pull and he kept pulling on full choke and it flooded:help:
 
In the tool box of my truck is a MS440 with a 32" bar, a MS660 with a 36" bar, 40:1 Stihl HP mix, gallon of Stihl bar oil, tool box with chains, files, and tools to do everything including a motor job. Yes I use them and have used a saw that was kept in my truck on several occasions during crappy weather to clear the road for other motorists. Just used both of them tonight on my way home helping a coworker cut up some firewood for his house. I happily don't live in a suburb, drive a Carola or own a pair of dress shoes or a tie.

Well said. We see a lot of crazy weather here in upstate NY. Micro burst laid down a bunch of big maples here a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I was at work but it took Brett ( spencerpaving) a few hours to clear less than a mile of road with 2 Saws and a skid steer............well they were just Smittybilt stihls so that could have been part of the problem

I was just thinking about you guys. I have been looking for an Echo 610 and I am pretty sure Brett had one at the GTG. In fact I think he had an Echo and the John Deere version. I need to hit him up and see if he would sell one of them. I know one of them was his grandfathers but the other may be fair game.

Yup he has them both still. I doubt he will get rid of them though...........I have tried talking him it of the 66V many times. Time for another gtg yet? We are ready lol.

I would pay a couple hundred for a good clean running 66v. I have a thing for John Deere so that saw is right up my alley.
 
I keep an 090AV with a 60" bar in my Smart Car. I live in the East Village in manhattan. I've never seen a downed tree, but I like to be prepared for any tree related road issue. If you we're willing to take a chance on not having enough saw, you could consider an 880 with a 48"

I'm with Brad. If there was a known storm, go ahead and throw in a big-ass saw just in case. Just throw in the biggest saw you already own.

Even an empty saw is going to make your car smell like 2-stroke unless you have a truck bed. Don't do it.

Hasn't had a problem with a saw in the trunk yet.......

Driving home at 4 am. Saw gets used.
 
All depends on where you live and what you drive, imo.

I normally keep a saw locked in the toolbox of my truck. I can think of at least 3 times in the past year that I've been damn happy I decided to keep a ready-to-go saw in my toolbox.

In fact, just earlier this week I drove over to a coworker's house to borrow a tool. I start up the driveway and realize that a tree had fallen across his driveway, completely obstructing anyone passing. I hopped out and walked up the driveway. He was at work, but I talked to his wife, who was unaware that the fallen tree was blocking her in. I mentioned that I had a saw in my truck, and she was so happy to have me clear a path in and out for her and the small children to make it into town.

We live a bit out in the woods, though and you kinda have to expect stuff like this to happen from time to time.

Living in the suburbs, driving a Corolla around....not worth fighting the fumes that will inevitably creep their way out of the trunk. :dizzy:

I did keep a saw in the cab of my truck for a short time because I was too lazy to take it out, and damn will those fumes give you a headache before you realize it!

30" or a little bigger is a good sized blowdown, id be more concerned with the condition of the rest of the town if a storm took that one down.
