My general habit has been to use name brand oil in the summer because it's thicker and retains some tack in the heat, and use cheaper house brand stuff in the winter because it's thin and flows better when cold. I went cutting this weekend with a buddy and the Stihl oil I bought runs like water. It literally splashed when I topped the saw off. [emoji107]

I got the usual orange jug. It's not a little thinner, it's walmart supertech water.

Ok, rant off. I suppose I'll have to do another price comparison and compare the rest to the platinum. I won't be paying stihl price for walmart oil again, that's for sure.

They changed the colors of the jugs recently. The platinum is the normal stuff you're used too. The orange is the thinner "woodcutter" now, part number is 7010 516 0000.

Yeah, and a local dealer wants 16.98 for a platinum gallon jug. Ouch. Still slinging my last jug of $5 clearance green poulan bar oil. Can't tell a lick of difference from the old Stihl orange jug. Maybe a lil sluggish when cold, but I seldom cut when it's really cold.

Just curious did it fail and your bar cooked and teeth got caked or was it just a visual observation?

Not picking at you truly just asking.

I usually use the tall timber stuff. Sells for 10 bucks in my area for a gallon. Works good for me. But I have tried stihl platinum it is darn good stuff. Not much for sling off on that stuff, just too rich for my blood.

Poulan green jug for me, thick and tacky, but hard to find in my area. Yah, the 1 qt bottles abound. I'm going to have to try the black jug at TSC, it's an hour drive for me but when I'm that way...
