Making electricity from gasoline sure is expensive, and running a generator gets old after a week or so. I hope they get it fixed up soon, it's no fun in the cold.
i have a 25k that i run of a 1000 pto on a 4455 john deere tractor. i dont run it wide open, and it does not work it too hard. it burns about 6-7 gal./hr.

I considered that, but I didn't want to tie up my tractor when I needed the generator, and I cannot get any equipment anywhere near the best place to connect on my house. Our 7500W unit is sufficient for what we need, and fairly quiet and efficient.

Well i faired much better today than Randy did.we did get 2 additional inches of slick arse snow on top of what ice we could catch traction on yesterday.our neighbors slightly to the north and north west got up to 19" of snow.other than the fridgid temps we have faired pretty well so far.
Being on the eastern side of the mountains we usually get the full force of the winter storms.in all actuality we usually get much more than western NC in a normal winter.

i would let him use my diesel genset but it's secured to a concrete slab on the ground its a military surplus deal he could do all the pie baking and bacon frying he could handle with it

My collection of Coleman & Petromax lanterns could heat a good sized house not to mention a camp stove or two. I keep enough Kerosene on hand to run the Kero-Sun wick heater for more than a week, Kleen heat for the wick lanterns and Coleman fuel a plenty. Safe-heat gel-alcohol chafing fuel for inside use with little to no smell. I can run a 2400 watt gen set for short term to maintain frig and small deep freezer and avoid food losses but would save the fuel for the car in a long term event.

Ice SUX ! Hope all involved in these latest storms have fared well.
