Hey all, a good buddy of mine just got a stihl 034 for $250 bucks whiles tearing it down and checking the overall condition we noticed it had a carb with hong kong engraved on it so were replacing it. The local shop said they'd have to order one and it'd take two weeks since they dont make service parts for them anymore so my question is would a stihl oem 034 super or 036 carb bolt up and would we see any hp gains if tuned by a stihl mechanic and there would be dual port muffler modification.

say what it should say stihl and made in Germany, but main question is will there be performance increases?

Guess what? The new carb you get from Stihl will say either made in Hong Kong again, or made in China. There are a bunch of carbs for 034 and 036's, they all were Zama C3A's and all had 15mm venturis. The carbs are still available from Stihl.

There is an illusive 034 Tillotson carb.

That's the one you want....

Yeap what wiggs said.nothing much wrong with the zama in this case other than saying made in Hong Kong.

My 034 has the zama and it's finicky. I thought about trying an after market carb to see if it would be better.

I don't think there has ever been a made in Germany carb on a Stihl saw since.. well Wiggs will have to answer that.. he's old 'n stuff.

As for performance, I can tell a difference....

Also, the tuning staying put. Everything I've ever owned with a Zama was wishy-washy with tuning. Run it one day, it's fine. Next day it's lean. Next day it's rich.
This one Is the only one I've found that I haven't had problems with so far.must have got lucky.of course its on my buddys saw that I got from Neal.really actually and truely.I hate zama carbs.

Tillotson was originally a US company that had the market cornered ... back when my dad had his Stihl dealership in the 80s I think it was ... the ungrateful union slugs struck the company ... for a long time, and finally Stihl and other companies were forced to go with Walbro who became their permanent suppliers back then.
Now Tillotson is made in Ireland I think.

I have a few of the elusive Tillotsons ... by the way :innocent:

Tillotson was made in Ireland since the late 70's early 80's I believe.could be wrong.
could be right ... maybe it was the late 70s
remember my dad ranting about it ... back then we thought Walbro was crap :p

Look at this:

Tillotson makes "exchange parts" now to replace the Chinese junk

No clue what they charge though

Hard to tell from the pic but it's an 034 Super with a tillotson. I have three carbs 2 zamas(one China, one Hong Kong). The Tilly runs the best out of the three IMOimage.jpg

so what tillotson carb should I get for the 034 and will we gain any hp out of putting a bigger 036 carb on it.
