Tim, what is with the throttle lock lever on the top of the back handle, I've never seen that on this series of saw? (Also, sweet orange 4000 in the last pic:))

I think the safety laws up here pertaining to chainsaws were legislated in much earlier in Canada than the US. Both my 4200 and 5200 have operator present levers on them. I think chain brakes became mandatory in most provinces in the mid '80's but I cannot find a date. Each province set it's own regs and British Columbia led the charge. Logger fatalities and serious injuries in the logging business in BC got them moving. I think the Workman's Comp paid out 35 cents to injured workers for every dollar earned by those cutting timber.

All of my carb rebuilds happen in the kitchen. I have better light than in the garage. Plus, it's easier to find those metering springs that are floor magnets.

I rebuild carbs on an old towel spread out on the table. Nothing rolls away on that.

Guys what Poulan saws do you have that are considered very rare? Not value but rare in numbers?

Not likely too many of those around NA. They were export saws for Nauder in France. I makes you wonder how they got here or maybe they were liberated at the Poulan factory. Very nice to have those.
I would say (wild guess) the scarcest NA re-brand may be the White Motors saws. I know there was at least a 25 series and a 361.

Mark would know for sure as he has many models in his collection.

Good info Tim, thanks for sharing. Learn something new everyday right!?

Those reproduction sets good Pete? I have a black top 5200 headed my way soon I might order a set for and clean it up.
A few of you know I gave Joe (sugar creek) all of my NOS decals so he could copy them for his reproduction decal sets. I would hope they are very good.

The 4200 looks fantastic Tim!! I wish I had some paint mixed when I did my 5200. I like your green much better! :numberone: Sure is a nice center piece for the dinning room table too. I can picture plates with a steak & baked potato around that saw!! Little piece of heaven that would be! :D

P.S. I would add the decal if were me...that saw is never gonna be cleaner than it is now! lol

Gregg,
Just tell the little miss that's its a new carving knife when ya have those big get togethers, she'll understand.[emoji3]

Well the PP335 arrived and as I suspected The cylinder is lightly scored but can be cleaned up. However the piston is shot. Don't know why, but I was surprised to see it is an aluminum piston with two thin rings. Like a baby 3700. Looking at different websites , many are substituting the 5300 71321 piston kit for the OEM 530010989. The substituted kit is originally compatible with Poulan 3450 and PP330 saws. Its a single ring piston and I assume aluminum. Can anyone confirm that its an aluminum piston? Would like some peace of mind before ordering it. additionally I measure my 335 piston at roughly 46.15mm. Thought the PP330 and 3450 were bigger

I don't know how they are saying 46.5 mm for the 3450 pistons. I have done bore measurements on the 3300 and 3450 and keep coming up with 46mm which makes me reluctant to order one or the "46.5's". I'll put a pic up after work today.

The rarest Poulan I have is a 203. Not valuable or particularly rare, but might say uncommon... Forerunner of the 306. Same 59cc saw, but had compression release start.

Gregg,

Sorry guys. I'm wrong on my previous measurements. I must have had the calipers off center and moving too fast. Here's what I'm getting 46.47mm (1st pic) for the Craftsman 3.3/3300 and 3540 cylinders. The measurements are closer to 46.5mm but I can't get the picture.

So far I found 3 different cylinder designs for the 54cc Poulan saws. The 2 from the Craftsman 3.3's/3300's - one has a chrome bore, the other does not and no impulse fitting on the cylinder. The 3300 style has the impulse fitting on the case.

The 3540 has a chrome bore, impulse fitting on the cylinder and completely different transfers.

(2nd pic) nonchrome 3300 cylinder on the left, 3540 on the right. The bolt pattern also 3mm wider on the 3450.
I would have added the chromed 3300 cylinder to the pic but it's in a saw- the non chrome is sitting out because it is toast.
