Hey guys! New here but I have been getting help from yall for years lol. Thought I should share my new find with everyone. check it out. cleaned the carb, cleaned the gas tank, new gas line, cleaned fuel filter, new pull rope then she fired off like a champ. I've never had a saw this big. I hope she will get it done lol 20160402_150720.jpg 20160402_150714.jpg 20160402_150727.jpg 20160402_150700.jpg 20160402_150720.jpg 20160402_150714.jpg 20160402_150727.jpg 20160402_150700.jpg

If she holds up good, she will get the full treatment. Paint, stickers ect ect

Oh and if anyone has any good tips or advise, I'm open to it. Mods and tricks? I'm thinking I want to take the bow bar off and use a reg.

Great old saw you have there. The 5200 is one of Poulan's best saws in my opinion. To really wrap your mind around how good, put a 30" bar and good sharp chain on it, and stick it in a large log. Their torque will surprise you.
I would suggest replacing the crank seals when you refurbish it. Your gonna like that saw. Good luck with it!

Thanks ohiogregg! I am pretty stoked about it. I've been messing around with much smaller saws for awhile now and was thinking of getting a new big stihl this year. My last poulan pro got slung to the ground a few times in a fit/melt down lol. I've had a lot of saws " small eng repair guy here" but the only ones that seem to really work are the older ones. As far as the bar goes I was thinking about a 30". I don't think I would need anything bigger then that. I do plan on heating me next home with wood but I can always get bigger if needed right lol. As far as crank seals go, That would be a new one for me. Ive never done them b4 but I think with as much info thats on here I could handle it.

If you do a search on eBay...you will find them, along with other various bits. You can obviously use a smaller bar also. But to me kinda defeats the purpose of that saw.

A fairly easy bar to find would be a 28" Oregon Power Match. In a D176 mount. Gotta remember, most parts are no longer avilable for these older saws, other than used. In your search for stuff, remember that parts are the same as the 4200, (69cc) version. The 5200 is (85cc).

Yeah I have seen that the parts are hard to come by but that might make it more fun lol. Thanks for the tip on the bar. I'd like the biggest bar the saw could RESPONSIBLY run but if there to hard to find a 28 it is lol I have made dogs for other saws in the past and was thinking I would find one for this saw and have some copies made. I have the old air filter for it but I'm not sure if I can save it or not. Any tips on that? Soap and water? Oh and thanks for the parts cross info!! that will help me a ton!

Congratulations! They are great saws, if you are interested in selling the bow I would be interested.
Well to be honest i'm the type of guy that never really sales anything but if I don't use it and you need it, i'm sure we can work something out

NW area, a bit below dalton, out in the sticks

Those old poulans are all great. I have, for runners, an s25cva, a 3400, 4000, 505, 8500 and an older 245a.
I'm in gwinnett co. Not to many sticks out here but a lot of gun fire and full side walks. I like to think of it as the new wild west lol. My friends got what we thing is a 3400 bow saw but we are not sure yet. All the stickers have long been gone. The best saw I have before this one is a old cast craftsman top handle powersharp. Thats my go to saw for most of the stuff I do. The thing runs like a top. I'll get some pics of it in the day light. I just sold a bile of saws the size of a riding mower. I fix mowers and that kind of stuff so people just give my stuff all the time. Every once and a while I get something worth saving.

Yep, Thats the bad part with these saws. Nobody makes new air filters for them that I know of. Occasionally you will find a new old stock filter on ebay, but they usually demand and arm or leg. :( Just wash the best you can, and air etc. I had one one time that the flocking was gone. I tried using a foam material to put in the filter. Wasn't great, but it got me by, till I found one. I guess there is other air filter material you could cut and make one also. Just have to get creative till ya can get a new or better one.
