Is that a pro Mac 610 variant? I saw a factory shop saw pro Mac 610 variant at an auction once. It commanded a crazy price. I think like $200.

It's part of the 610 series but bigger I believe, now correct me if I'm wrong because I know nothing about the 610 series but, I don't think the 610 had a decompression valve, and this one does.

I have several different 610 variants and none of them have compression releases. I pick up lots of them to be parts saws but almost every single one ends up just needing carburetor work.

I do not have any 600 series bigger than a 610 so it is most likely a larger version.

That's what I was thinking. Also wanted to know if any of the veterans know if the ring sets for the pm610 can be used on other older 10 series saws

I have a pm 610 piston and a pm 10-10 piston. I can compare and post pictures. I can also measure ring thickness with calipers if I can find one of my old pm700 rings

Had the same experience buying a 570. Repeated several times with several 82cc MACs. Finally got a part saw after many trys. Ron

Maybe 610 rings in a 10-10s. But you are looking at 1.81" vs 1.812". So you might have slightly more ring gap. If the ring thickness was the same.

Guys would really appreciate any thoughts you have on this little mystery. I picked up my 740 today after a long round trip. This picture is the original owner Gary, holding the original manual, parts catalogue. Next to the saw is the oil canister from the combo oil/fuel tank (fuel container cracked about 30 years ago) and the Mcculloch file guide that came with the saw.
Now Gary was a really straight shooter and says that he got the saw new from a little town called Lucindale in South Australia in about 1965 - he says the saw is completely original. Now have a look, it has the starter on the left hand side and if you have a look at the video posted (gone into slo mo as my daughter was videoing!!) it has a odd "half" steel full wrap handle. Anyone that can shed any light would be really appreciated. My suspicion is that this was an export model of the saw, maybe an Australian special addition?

Never been fueled. The 690 has the 650 cylinder that many believe to be the best performer in the family. There were 54 cc and 57 cc versions of the 600 Series saws as well as thin ring and thick ring so a lot of variety that could lead to performance differences. We have a Timber Bear with new rings that runs and pulls a 24" bar pretty well.
Since there was a 795L, no reason to believe that some were pushing for a 740L as well. I don't seem to have a photo of my 795L but McCulloch sold the 795: power head to a number of manufacturer for cut off saws. I have the Stowe and Target versions.

I knew if anyone was going to have one it would be you Mark. I can't really imagine it being worth a lot but I'm not giving much for the one I'm getting so I'm not that worried about it. I do know I'm going to need either a new decompression valve or at least a plug.
I would still like to get one of the 10 Series with the 7-10 power head, Roland (Belgian) had a very nice example when I visited him some while back.
I also passed on a 390, cut off saw based on the 300 Series saws when it went over $100. I would like to have one and would pay that much for a nice one, but not for one as badly used as that one was. I don't think anyone ever tried to make a commercial cut off saw out of a Mini Mac but they did offer a brush cutter/weed trimmer attachment and a hedge shear type attachment of which I have neither.

Saw a mini mac brush cutter adapter on the bay a little while back, I think for 75 dollars. I too would like to have a 10 series cutoff saw some day
The adapter has been on there for many months, no takers.
Someone else has been advertising an McCulloch 120 gear box, I can't tell what it really is supposed to be but I tempted to get it just to see, not such and outlandish price on that one.

I rebuilt the carburetor on my super pro 60 chainsaw. I tried to start it and nothing. I pulled the plug and it was wet, so I left it out and laid the saw aside. Gas started pouring out the muffler and drained the tank. Does anyone know what would cause this?

Well, I should have been more clear, stuck open when putting the cover on or something allowing free flow of fuel into and out of the carb
Make sure there isn't a piece of debris under the needle causing a leak. The metering lever (on the needle) may be set too high. It doesn't take much. You may want to check the pop off pressure on the needle before you pull it apart to make sure the needle isn't leaking.
