Please help me understand what's going on!

I got 5 chains sharpened and shortened. First time running saw with resharpened chain, the saw bogged down and won't spin chain. Began troubleshooting...

Purchased new 20" bar and 20" chain. The chain lines up and spins with no problem when loose. As soon as you put the cover on and tighten to 1 finger looseness, the chain will not spin. I can't see anything binding or preventing it from spinning.

Chain break isn't locked up (had that problem before, this is not that).

Could it be a bad sprocket/bearing?

Why not run a new chain on it?

I don't see burrs on the sprocket.

Lol that is by far the most worn sprocket I have ever seen!!!! Wow hall of fame that one is there!!

This is clearly why it won’t work. Get yourself a new one.

Googling a picture of what a sprocket is *supposed* to look like, mine is indeed worn. Mine is so worn that I thought those grooves were supposed to be there.

Green I am, but I ain't afraid to learn! Thanks for the advice and gentle harassment
Hey look at it this way, you have figured out the problem and you can go cut wood again! We all start somewhere!

That's bad, but have seen worse. Cut in half worse. Changing a sprocket like that with new, will require new chains or you will destroy new sprocket.
