I think I would be taking that back and asking for an exchange for a good one (considering what they charge for an OEM 880 cylinder!) or a full and complete refund.
He should of brought a far superior Chinese cylinder for $20 than that OEM Stihl rubbish...

Below is a pic of what an inferior rubbish OEM stihl 880 cylinder looks like with a couple thousand hrs on it... Why anyone would waste money on OEM inferior rubbish is a mystery to me?
The Chinese stuffs is way betterer in every way is true I seen it on youtubes..The old wives tale you get what you pay for no longer applies in this day and age so they say :dizzy:.

Yeah I took scotch bright to it and it's not a oem cylinder it is a Chinese cylinder everything else on this cylinder is perfect except that spot

I build saws to sell I can't put this cylinder on this saw I port the saws ho oilers I build good saws can't take a chance on that cylinder

You win- the title fooled me.

It has stihl parts in it to but there is alot of aftermarket never seen the reason to build a all stihl for about 2500 when I can build a aftermarket one with same warranty for 1000

Your saw (until you sell it to some unsuspecting buyer) and you are free to put in on and around it what you wish.
But I revoke my original post as you will likely never see the money back on that one.

Yeah I don't think I'll get money back on that cylinder I'll probably use the cross cylinder and the pop up piston

Yeah I was just messing around being confusing lol
A lot of em for some strange reason like to call there China copy saws the real thing and confuse the crap out of everyone.
How many times do ya hear my Stihl ms660 has some strange problem and it's not until a few pages in the truth comes out lol

That's all true but how much would it cost to build a all oem stihl 660 new I don't necessarily like were the parts come from but if it works and it's a good product then I say use it if a saw build plan is based off of a stihl 660 then its basically a stihl 660 be like buying a 70 Chevrolet chevelle putting a 454 in it and a Muncie 4 speed and ss emblems on and saying my car is a super sport they both from factory could have went either way is point one got some different parts than other and more value but if you build them the same they run the same the ss means nothing then

The point I was trying to make is there is alot of cylinders for the saw I can name a hand full if there good castings to me it doesn't matter where it's made I think pretty sure the old stihls had mahle stamped on them if you look you will find those were not casted in states or Germany and the new ones same thing like a car parts come from all over the world like dewalt for instance says built in usa dig a little parts are from China Mexico Japan alot of places

I have a friend who thought the same thing, he ordered a india made single cylinder diesel engine to run a generator year round on demand for a shop. Two years later he's 3 india engines in and several rebuilds later he decided it was better to buy a us made version from the 40's. A good cleaning, set of rings, scotch brite and a gasket set and its been running 6 months without a hiccup.
The exact same scenario has played out for me over and over with stihl chainsaws that were 60+ years old to 6 years old that were ran 1,000+ hours then parked for years or decades. Building for personal fun and financial gain are two different things with two different outcomes. If I sell a saw assembled using oem parts I make less money because the parts cost more but the saw will bring word of mouth advertisement as long as it runs optimally, likely for decades. In the end what will make more money?

Not the same- Stihl parts are made all around the World- cylinders, carbs and pistons almost always have been- but they have to pass Stihl QC and are packaged/supplied as Stihl products- your cylinder is made to look roughly the same by someone with no parent company commitments and as you have discovered, no real quality control.

I agree with the quality control that cylinder was just on a line and boxed I never use farmertec cylinders I was going to use that one everything on that cylinder is clean good looking cylinder no flash in intake or exhaust ports very little in transfers then further inspection plating at top missing ruined all the other good work
