OK, time to put the wheel back on my tractor and get it back to work. First, I bolted the center on,

then on goes the rim,

Everything bolted up as it should, so time to finish loading my wagon,

and sawing the logs to firewood lengths,

and once loaded, I headed to the splitting area.

Was Pilgrim one of the situations where Maurice Hinchey (then in the state assembly and later US Congress) was pushing investigations and legislation to get the mob out of the trash industry? That was back around '79-'81 as I recall. Hinchey was personally threatened and applied for a concealed carry handgun permit the same week I applied for mine. Let no one ever tell you politics and connections don't matter when it comes to handgun permits... As a kid my brother hung around with an issuing judge's kids and I was at his house enough that he knew me. At about 22-23 I got my concealed carry permit in about 3-4 months at a time with it typically took 2-3 years... the Sheriff sat on applications as a tactic to discourage people from applying. I was in the Sheriff's office talking to him one time and he pointed to piles of applications on the window stool that were at least 3 feet high. As I recall from a newspaper article that showed his application and it's history, Hinchey's permit took about two years to be issued. The optics of him using connections to get it sooner was bad... me, I was a kid who knew the judge and flew under the radar.

Hinchey carried at PPK. A friend of mine was on his congressional staff and regularly rode in the car with Hinchey... he reportedly always had the gun with him. That is until he "forgot" it was in his luggage and it was confiscated at Dulles. 😉 Hinchey passed away a few years back... his staffer is now a city administrator not too far from you Mike.
I don't remember the exact dates, but I'm sure my audit was a good deal after that. I started with the State in December 1975 and did not go to Mental Health for 6 years, and my audit of Pilgrim was not one of my earliest ones with them.

The strangest true story (Relating to Pilgrim PC) is the one about the Poughkeepsie teacher who kidnapped his 18 year old neighbor and (when he refused his sexual advances) tied his hands to the ceiling (in his basement), cut off his genitals and cooked and ate them in front of him while the poor kid was still alive! They actually declared that he was rehabilitated and gave him grounds privileges (he could leave the campus, unsupervised, on his own) and were about to release him when other victims (that he had claimed never existed, like this was the first time he did anything wrong) came forward and they thankfully (then) put him away.

The only other case I know of as gross as this was Lemuel Smith and his atrocities at Rockland Psychiatric Center and Greenhaven Prison. I spoke with one of the guys who had to clean up the mess at Rockland, disgusting stuff! The fact that he was not executed shows you that the criminal justice system does not work. Even after being placed in Greenhaven prison, he murdered a female prison guard. He was a very sick and deranged individual, and there was no reason to keep him alive and allow other folks to become victims.

Lemuel Smith... he was in the news a lot back in the day! Seems executing insane people isn't considered reasonable.😉 I knew a serial killer when teaching college courses.... Alexander Verone (spelling??). He was very smart, a pre-med student, and was in on pedophile charges. He served every single day of his sentence... After he was released he became a serial killer--he preyed on sex workers. I couldn't find him in the NYS DOCS system... maybe he had federal charges on his last bit of handiwork??

Another student of mine was Richard Robles of Career Girl Murders fame. He was finally released in 2020... a long time after his 1966 incarceration. His Wikipedia entry gives a pretty good summary of his life... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Career_Girls_Murders I facilitated the items in the last line of the legacy section. 😉

I got my new quick connect fittings in late last night for my tree/post/ brush puller. This morning I went out to play with it. On really soft wood the jaws literally crush the wood and snap the tree off the roots. On brush and hardwoods it rips the roots right out of the ground. Multi flora roses, grape vines and Bittersweet don't stand a chance against it. These pictures are only part of what I accomplished this morning. I was pulling grape vines out of tall trees, a really big Bittersweet that went to the top of a 40 foot tree and quite a few rose bushes. The best part was not having to get off the tractor. This tool was a great buy and will get used a lot around the farm and on the woodlot.

Do you have foam filled front tires? Thats some cracks there. Good load of wood you got there.

More autonomous scrounging! This is from my new PTA best friend again. I was out of town and this had appeared when I came home this evening.View attachment 1108169
Be careful, my nephews have both been in “the business” for a few years now. Some of the wood they drop off from their side jobs can be less than ideal and often not ideal lengths

Oh boy, do I know about that. I've scrounged lots of tree service (and homeowner) cut wood. Maybe you missed the piles of odds and ends that I posted up not that ago. LOL. And I have more to add to the randomness. I would definitely prefer log length be delivered so I can control it better, but that's what you get when asking for free firewood.
