I am 4 months post-op for a (robotic) total knee. I'm much better than before surgery but still swollen and sore however it's my understanding that you still improve for up to a year. I am glad I had it done though ..... I can cut, split and stack for 2 to 3 hours at a time and I'm OK with that.
Mine was all healed up and back to normal by a year. I returned to work fulltime building big threading machines after 4 1/2 months. Then two months later I had a torn rotator cuff repaired that had bothered me on and off for 5 - 6 years. Two months after that I retired at 68 1/2.

Go for it and do your rehab. The people that had issues after surgery didn't work hard enough to break the scar tissue. That is the main reason for the horror stories.
Bull **** statement.. I had mine done 6 years ago. Did regular rehab, rode the bike, stair steppers, tread mills, walked the track, everything I was told to do.I even went to the gym on the days I didnt have rehab. Was even told I was doing to much. Kept having problems and even went to a different doctor. I wake up in the morning and my knee hurts. I go to bed at night and my knee hurts. I sit in my recliner and my knee hurts. To say someone has problems because they didnt work hard enough is just pure ignorance on you part. My sister had both knees replaced, Didnt do any rehab and doesnt have any problems, so that also goes to show rehab isnt the only answer. I wish I did have a answer, but I dont and two doctors dont, so my knee still hurts.

My brother did everything he was supposed to do, and then some, and his did not go smoothly either.

I think they went back in, and things are improving.

I wish you the best of luck with yours also, it sucks when things do not go as planned and they never "always" do.

I have a fear of being sedated. I know it is supposed to be routine, but like I tell people, that is what Joan Rivers thought!

As MustangMike said, my dad did EVERYTHING they wanted of him and more. Just like you…
It did not go well at all

Like you stated, sometimes it goes well, some times it doesn’t

Total carp shoot

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you. You are the 3rd person now that I have heard of not having a successful knee surgery and Mechanic Mike's relative. The reason I needed a knee replacement was because an Orthoscopic Surgeon cleaned out my knee and removed too much cartilage. Six months after that surgery my knee was bone on bone. Three months after that cleanout my knee was worse than before he operated on it. When I told him my knee was worse now than before you touched it. His reply was, well there's nothing more I can do for you. Within a week I had a new surgeon at a hospital in Boston.

I have a question for you Mike. Ask your brother if the surgeon went back in to remove the scar tissue in his knee. During my rehab I had 4 different therapists. All of them warned me that if the scar tissue wasn't broken up that I would need to have my knee operated on again to take care of it. I know one woman that had that issue.

Hit the honey do list this weekend. Put brakes on my mint 2008 corolla silver anniversary edition and polished headlights. Swapped to winters and also on the eff one fiddy. Burned all my punky poplar in October and swapped to real firewood today. Wow what a difference. Gotta be careful or I'll cook myself out of the house!

My brother has had many surgeries and is well aware of this stuff. When they operated on his guts, they told him not to do anything, and he developed lesions on his intestine, so after the second surgery (to the horror of the doctor) he did pullups to break the lesions so they would not have to go in again.

Trust me, he did everything humanly possible, including rigorous PT (pain and torture).

They told him the same thing, he would rip the scar tissue up and it would just keep coming back. Finally one day he had a different PT lady. She did some different exercise and it finally started getting better.

But he too had multiple little “clean ups” before the big one

Thanks for the info Matt. Hopefully that is the end of it.

You are right about PT pain and torture, sometimes. Rt shoulder 1x, left shoulder 4x, rt knee 1x, left knee 2x, rt elbow 1x, exploded appendix upon removal and 4 bladder scrapings. I truly know the meaning of the operating room and therapy.

My knee is all metal. They sawed off the bone just below the knee and screwed the metal back to it. I also had manipulation under Anesthesia, thats where they take the leg off and beat it against the wall a few times before putting it back on, or at least thats what it felt like. The scans of my leg bone looked like swiss cheese, full of little holes. My pain is on the inside side of my knee joint. You can poke it with a finger and it will shoot pain. Two well reputation surgens have looked at it, took xrays and declared they cant see anything wrong. Learn to live with it or have it operated on again and it might make it worse. I choose to deal with it.
