Cylinder Stud question. I got the studs in this week and one end has a slightly longer threaded area. Which end goes in the case? I would assume the longer end, but you know what happens when you assume. I had 3 of them in with red locktite and was about to put the last one in when I noticed the slight difference in thread length. Glad I noticed it before it set up.

Where did you find the studs?

They are available through your local Stihl Dealer. PN# 0000-953-0816 I managed to buy all new parts, but it took some research for the piston pin.

Been to 2,they both said they were NLA a tho my ipl shows part no.

0000 953 0814......maybe thats the prob.

The long end in the case due to softer metal needs more area for threads.

Well, the piston pin came in today and I got the saw put mostly together this evening. The new cylinder shifts both the muffler and the carburetor just a bit toward the rear of the saw. The muffler support bracket is about half a hole off and the carburetor linkage is a bit long now, won't let the butterfly return all the way to the idle position. I should be able to shorten the linkage and open the hole in the muffler support this weekend.

I put a carb kit in while I was waiting on the pin so I hope that doesn't give me problems. I've never done that before and I just put the metering lever in as it came out of the package. It looked about like the one that came out as far as angle and such. One thing that was strange was that the needle that came out had a rubber-like tip and the new one was all metal. I put a kit in that freebie Shinny 500 this week and it's needle had a rubber tip too.

Anyway, that's the report from the saw bench...

Just put a little more kink in the throttle wire and take a dremel to the muffler mount hole.

Vroom! Fired it up this afternoon. I have some tweaking to do on the carb but I cut 20 or so cookies from a 10" sycamore log I had laying around. No roostertail with this saw. It drops the chips out the back like you were pouring them from an ice tea pitcher. Nice pile about a foot tall.

What's the rated RPM on the supers? My manual for the farm boss says 10K, I have it set at 9,800 at the moment.

Thanks... I'll play around with it some. Should be a lot easier to hear the 'blubber' on this old saw than the new ones. I never could hear it on my 361 or 372.
