I have a 2005 Sc352, my upper gear box is getting extremely hot. You can't hold your hand on it at this point. How complicated is it to replace? Is there a cheap bit reputable aftermarket other than Coomer , I think I have that right. Any tips, tricks or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have no experience with Vermeer, but quite a bit with gearboxes and other equipment. Got a picture of the gearbox in question?

Many gearboxes are not made by the manufacturer, but they are deviously clever at making you come back for oem parts. Get the part number for the gearbox and search the internet for information on that device.

Do some analysis. Pull the gearbox oil plug and check for metal filings. Do some eyeball inspection of the gears inside while you are at it. Has this ever been moved or adjusted? When was the last time it got a fluid check?

And... How long does it take to get finger-burning hot?
