Modding the muffler will give you the most gains short of having the saw woods ported. If you have a catalytic muffler I would suggest buying a non-cat model and then opening it up. Always be sure to re-tune the carb or you will be running lean which is not a good thing. You will have to cut the limiter tabs off of the limiter caps in order to do that. You do not have to totally remove the plastic caps. RPM's should not be more than 13,500 wot out of the cut. Get a good tach will a fast refresher rate. Does the saw have a blue colored ignition module (limited) or a black one (unlimited)? :chainsaw:

no idea but will look. why not use the factory cat muffler and take the guts out? what is the diff with the ignition module

a LOT easier to work with the non cat.....if your are not careful doing either one you can pull back pieces from the muffler mod into the cylinder and eat a piston and possibly damage the cylinder as well.....it is more likely with the cat type

Another reason is the catalyst is carcinogenic. You start drilling / grinding on it and you will probably end up ingesting some of it. The catalyst also is a great producer and retainer of heat. When you richen the fuel mixture of a saw with a cat muffler you are also increasing the heat produced by it. The catalyst feeds on unburned fuel. The air filter cover on my 359 e tech was starting to get a bit crispy on the leading edge over the top of the muffler. Ever notice the metallic tape located under the air filter cover directly over the top of the muffler? Don't take it off.
