Sold 288 I think

Looks like a 288 engine tag is missing I got this from a buy out 150 psi compression look at the pics , top cover is cracked saw is dirty , turns over freely dose not start this is a project saw 300.00 pho plus the ride , pay pal ff , I think the top handle is not for this saw it doesn't look right in person

Measure the bore... 54mm = 288xp, 52mm = 281xp.

No need to pull cyl to measure bore, pull the muffler, put the tail of caliper against the piston & push the pin to the back of the cyl., read gauge.

Measuring it threw the exhaust port I get 53.63 mm as the measurement

Nice. Unless the cylinder was swapped and there's a plugged decomp hiding under the top cover, that saw has the NLA non-decomp jug. Definitely a bonus.

I’ve had a couple of non-decomp 288s that were a real pain in the shoulder to pull over...

Me too. I'm putting together a nice 300th anniversary one right now, I'm definitely using the base gasket.

Have a 288, no base gasket. Has a decomp aftermarket cylinder, but I don't use it. Compression was around 180 last time I measured it. Doesn't start any harder than a 2100 IMO.
