I got a 346NE I'm doing a basic rebuild on. I'm going to drop the base gasket and do a muffler mod. This has always been a strong mod on it's own. I've noticed these saws have a very large area on the lower transfers that does not match the case, more than most saws. I don't want to widen the ex,intake ports at this time.If I had more experience with porting I would open them up too.

Would it be worthwhile to open this area up and blend them or would it be risky if I did not do any other port work? I figured with this area having such easy access, I might try to open these up,but was not sure if it would mess with velocity, without any other port work. I know bigger is not always better,so I wanted to ask the experts. Thanks
