After 16 years the best advice i can give you is...there is nothing at all wrong from walking away from equipment you know will keep you off your target margin range. Poulan, ryobi, weedeater, bolens, snapper, murray..their handheld stuff is disposable. If its not something obvious like a broken rope or bad clutch...walk away. If it needs fuel line...estimate in a high number with a carb overhaul to cover your butt.

Riders...grab every spindle. Nothing sucks like finishing a service and doing blades to find both spindles are shot to hell.

Push mowers....every single one...every one....before you do Anything at all, plug out and have someone pull the rope..check for a bent crank.

2 strokes...check compression. Going by feel will get you in the ballpark if something is roached out dead...but a gauge is desired. Try and focus on Stihl, husqvarna, echo, jonsereds, dolmar...they are generally worth repair up to a point.
