Hey, just to cry a little and maybe help some of you out- the altec csn-505 "drum weldment replacement" is only repaired by altec for 10 years. This is the recalled part between the upper and lower boom on the LRV 55 units. The part wears and eventually causes the upper boom to contact the lower boom when cradling the unit. If your unit is less than 10 years old- they fix it for free. If it is 11 years old- it's $3,900. There are also 4 other csn repairs that need to be completed.
In my opinion, it's not much of a customer service notice, because they never notified me... If I had known this a couple years ago when I bought the unit, I wouldn't be facing this problem. I found out from someone who had gotten the repair completed under warranty, and thought, great!
