Good evening, all. Just helped a buddy cut this tree down and then buck it. He gave it all to me. Any idea exactly what it is. I'm thinking hickory, but I'm an idiot.

It is definitely dense--heavy as oak.

Do you know what it is?

Well, if I would have started splitting some first, I wouldn't have needed to ask y'all. The smell instantly confirmed that it was hickory. After splitting it all, I don't feel like eating any pulled pork anytime soon!

Also, as others have attested, it is stringy and tough. It gave me a nice workout splitting it on my little 5-ton electric.

Next up--a wild cherry tree of the same size.
