Sci-Fi is right! Can't imagine that thing gets around very fast but I bet it would kick butt on a steep slope where you didn't want to disturb the ground to much, like a watershed near a resevoir. There are a ton of places around the Quabbin where that would work for the thinning. Somebody did a study and determined there were two many ???? trees in the watershed. They were using too much of the water bound for the resevoir.

Now how do you get those logs out of there without a big forwarder?
 
That's demented! Watch them pass a law requiring low impact logging and this guy is ahead of the game. I watched the video and it looks very slow, couldn't get out of it's own way if a tree took a wrong turn:D
 
I spent some time traveling around to Finland and Sweden a few year ago and they had quite a bit of Sci-Fi looking equipment in the woods. Most of the European countries have tons of regulations, including low impact stuff.
