Hi,
I received an apple tree from my brother-in-law last year and planted it in my yard in a partly sunny area, near other trees. I live in southern Minnesota. It is about 5 feet tall. I have a few questions.

1. There is a shoot growing from the ground next to the main trunk. How do I remove it properly and when? What precautions should I take?

2. What is necessary for proper care of this tree and what can I do to increase the likelyhood that it will bear good fruit. The trees that my B-I-Law has produce small green apples.

3. How would I tell what variety this tree is?

Sincerely,
Ralph

Hello everyone, I too have an apple tree question or two...
I live in Minnesota and have two new apple trees. Supposedly they are Minnesota hardy, and one is a very new variety...I just got them last year and the trunks are maybe 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter. One of the trees were full of blossoms this year, and even has a bunch of apples. My question is should I be spraying with something?
also what other care information can you give?
I'd also like to know the answers that Rebade got on his questions....
Thank you for any help....:D
