Can anyone recommend a good guide to identify trees in the SE? Specifically east TN. I am looking for a guide I can take with me in to woods, not an online resource.

I have so many different trees here and I would like to know what they are. Something that is portable and detailed would be great. I know a lot of them are different types of oak, but there are at least 10 types of trees I can distinguish and probably more.

Thanks

Peterson's Field Guides - Eastern Trees, by Petrides. It's a bit heavier than I'd want in my pant pocket, but it will fit.
Woody Plants in Winter, by Core and Ammons, is great after the leaves fall. Not sure if its still in print, but you might find an old used copy. Its geared toward the northeast US, but will cover most of what you have in TN.

A small hand lens will come in very handy for getting a close look at buds.
