Over the years, I have used just about everything from Stihl's finest down to used motor oil. It all provides lubrication, but each have their own characteristics that gives them a "personality." For the last few years I have been using Bailey's Motion Lotion and have only great things to say about it! When they have their free shipping special I usually buy 5 cases. http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=17095%20CS

I also use their Woodland Pro Synthetic Pro 2 Cycle Engine oil. With the synthetic oil, I have torn down some of my saws to freshen them up and there is no carbon build up at all. It burns clean with no deposits. I highly recommend it too! http://www.baileysonline.com/itemdetail.asp?item=18041 CS

The bottom line is... use the best that you can afford and your saws will last you a long time!

Good luck and welcome to the site!
