Can anyone help us with the following problem? All of our fruit trees planted in Spring 2000 were stripped of their outer bark for about a foot in length above ground level by rabbits in Winter 2001. Their Spring growth this year started healthily, forming fruit, and then as the hotter weather started, they have slowly wilted and are dying. Some are oozing gum where the wound meets the remaining bark. They have been well watered and mulched and there are no apparent signs of disease.
Are these symptoms consistent with those of ringbarking?
Are there any measures we can take to save our trees before we lose the lot?
