Just wanted to post some before and after pictures of my 266SE I’ve been working on. I’m not officially done with it yet but it does run.

Nice work, nice saw.
Very handy 60+cc saw that handles like a 50-60cc saw.
Thank you. Took me a while to find a nice 266. Did crank seals, o-rings, carb kit, fuel hose, fuel filter, piston rings, few gaskets and other miscellaneous things. Also put on the pro safety bumper spikes and red beard bar adapter so I can run my Stihl light bars on it. Gonna put it in some wood here shortly.

Everything is new looking except for spark plug-lol
dont see many with full wrap handle anymore
looks great 👍

Thank you. Yeah the plug looks in worse shape than it actually is. It’s a old German made WSR6F it works so I figured I’d leave it alone lol. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it right? And yes these saws are getting hard to come by especially with the full wrap. I see 266’s on eBay that look like they were used as a boat anchor and then dragged behind a truck sell for like three times what I paid for this one.

Good for another 30-40 years. ;)

I recently found a very nice XP version that required little to get it back into the line of users and it was also cheap- I had to buy the 181SE disguised as a 281 and the 266 came along as part of the deal for free.

Sounds like you scored on that deal. This 266 is a 82 model and it did run even before I tore it down so yeah, I’m thinking it should last at least another 30 years. Got some spare parts on hand so I’m pretty well set.

I recently restored a friend's 266 that had electrical problems. I also restored a Stihl 046 for him that he found at a garage sale for practically nothing after he thought the 266 was dead. Both saws now run fine. But, I have never seen him start and run the 046. His "go-to" saw is the 266.

I don’t know exactly what it is about the 266 or other 200 series saws, but they definitely seem to be a go-to kind of saw. Must be the simplicity. And they run very well of course.

Simplicity and reliability often collaborates.
Like my old Ford Escort; 4 wheels, four brakes and four suspensions... then its good to go.
Very mechanical, not very technical...
Indeed it does. This is why I’m not too big a fan of the strato/autotune saws. That being said, I have a 545 Mk II that I’m quite fond of. I’ll be taking this 266SE (and a few other saws because why not) on many a wood cutting adventures!
