I had a Husky(sig line) Rancher manual oiler it was a Walkerized saw .I rescued it from a pawnshop. I took it into walkers saw shop and verifed it,it checked out! I put a 16 inch bar and a new chain.I had this saw for about 8 years with lots of use!
I loaned it to a buddy, with a can of my special mix/bar oil . I gave him a pre flight check list.He was bucking up an old hemlock/doug fir that was sitting in his barn for many years nice and dry and like iron. He remembered the part to push the oiler every "5 steamboats". He ran out of the first tank, then filled it with his straight A100LL . His wife called him for dinner, went out the next day to finish the cutting. The next day he fired up the saw and started the cut ,forgetting the "5 steamboats" he saw some smoke so he leaned into it harder then he heard a loud screech and a bang .Saw quit he pulled it out of the wood and tried to pull the cord.locked up.I guess he had a few choice words to himself. He then drove over he said it was the longest 5 minute drive. James knocks on the door,I sort had a hunch why he was standing there, kinda like when the police knock on the door to deliver bad news.In he steps and delivers the news. It was like a kick to the "berries" with steel toed work boot. I pulled it apart knowing this aint good the con rod twisted 90 degrees and split the jug!
Being the buddy that he is will replace it with another new Walker saw.Unfortunately has fallen on a bit of hard times due to his mental illness.James is turning around again for the positive so he will be back at work soon.
Note to self:
This is my chainsaw. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My chainsaw is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I master my life. My chainsaw, without me, is useless. Without my chainsaw, I am useless. I must use my chainsaw cut true. I must cut straighter than anybody who is trying to beat me. I must out cut him before he out cuts me. I will....
My chainsaw and myself know that what counts in this world is not the rounds we buck, the noise of our saws, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the cuts that count. We will cut...
My chainsaw is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will love it as a brother. I will learn its weakness, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its bar and its chain. I will keep my chainsaw clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God I swear this creed. My chainsaw and myself are the defenders of my heat. We are the masters of our trees. We are the saviors of my life(beaten by wife!). So be it, until victory is ours and there is no enemy, but Peace.
