I have an empyre elite, radiant in floor heat, propane condensing back up boiler and propane hwt tank. Should i dump the empyre water into an electric hwt tank (not wired) before the heat exchanger for my dhw? Currently the empyre goes to the heat exchanger then the propane boiler tees into the line before my floor heating panel. The electric tank is connected to the heat exchanger which then preheats my propane dhw tank.

I've been wondering the same thing for efficiency reasons. If i take my system that has 200 gallons and i bring that up to 400 gallons of boiler water it would make the boiler cycle less and provide a more steady heat in theory. Not sure about wood consumption if it would go up or down. Some day I may experiment with this theory.
