They're a mixed blessing. Half the time they're in the way and are just dead weight. I reckon I lose about an inch of cut length with them (the large stock ones) on my 066.
Do you regularly slam your muffler or oil tank into the (uneven, gnarly) log when the chain gets a healthy, sudden bite? Do you often find that you could use longer spikes for lateral leverage when felling or stump cutting? If so, then by all means, get ya some! As I recall, the 372 comes with a nice pair of medium-sized dawgs which I'd think would be a very good all-around compromise.
