A cable was placed around a tree several years ago and it has grown into the tree. I cut the connector that was on the cable so it is no longer constricting the tree. The problem is, the tree grew around the cable and short of cutting into the new growth I can't figure out how to get it out. My question, is it better to leave that in there now that the ends are lose? Or should I dig into the tree to get the cable out?

Does the tree seem healthy above the cable?
Since it's already grown over it, I think you might do more harm than good trying to remove it.
I would just cut the ends off as close to the tree as possible so it can compartmentalize it.
I've seen trees grow around small diameter cables like that and keep growing.

Thank you! I did post this in the correct forum and all agree with you. Someone else said to leave a few inches of cable sticking out in case anyone ever cuts it up in the future...so it won't cause damage to their saw or injury. Said it would not hurt anything to leave that little bit out.
