Client has washington hawthorne w/ three main stems. One stem leaves the ground at about 45 degree angle, and then and then curves outward. In looking at the tree, the angle and curve seem rather severe. Should I leave this tree alone, or should I consider cabling? After reading the thread on bradford pears and there vulnerability to breaking apart, I am taking a second look at pre-emptive cabling.

Thoughts?

Age? Size? If it has not recently changed, I tend to think there's reaction wood holding it well. First thought with that genus is to thin/reduce ends a bit to lessen strain on the "odd-agled" attachment. But I would not recommend a lot of that without :Eye: it.

Hey how did the fair go? did you promote good arbo at your booth, and boost your biz enough to pay for the effort? Did anyone stop to watch the videos?

Unless there's an issue of rotted wood/holes/hollow spots, I'd leave it alone.
