I have a Petzl Sequoia SRT harness and it has a rope bridge. On either end of the rope bridge are these plastic pieces that cover the stitched end. I'd venture to guess that these are for the most part cosmetic. You can see what they look like here:

I just bought a DMM swivel and it fits over the stitched end (with the cover slid down the rope), but I can't get it over the plastic portion. Is there any reason I can't just cut off the plastic piece? It looks like older versions of the rope bridge didn't use that plastic piece:
