Like the rest of you I'm getting tired of FeeBay and hearing about being ripped off just doesn't sit well with me. So I've turned to using Craigslist almost exclusively. I check listings all around my area and do check around your area too. I have a hard time getting a seller to ship and have missed a lot of really good deals because the seller won't go through the headache of shipping or deal with the payment of moneys. Most I think, are scared of being ripped off.

Seems us chainsaw hording type are experienced enough to know how to ship, send and receive money and can look at a saw and know what you are getting in a couple minutes or just by talking to them over the phone.

Now the hard part comes in convincing the seller to ship a saw. I've been successful only twice, a mint Super 925 and two Super 1050's. I've lost out on to many to list but last was a prime Stihl 090 because they didn't want to ship, I even offered 1.5 times the selling price to accommodate the hassle.

I need some help and am sure that some of you could also use some help with this same problem on occasion (buying more saws). I thought if I offered to help you, some of you would offer to help me (and others too). Like having a place to come to get a name and having a better than average chance of getting some... pick it up and ship it off help. I've posted up for help and waited and waited and waited, someone always offered to help and I thank you, it just seemed painful. I would be willing to receive your paypal (don't forget it takes a couple days to get your money) and deliver the cash and still pick it up and send it off, you and I will get even later (gas money and a 6 pack, we'll trade some parts, pick any saw from the bunch you'd like except this one).

Craiglist sellers don't want to wait, they want the "first come-first served -right now- money talks" and it often requires you to make a phone call on my behalf and the arrangements for pick-up.

I just thought it would be nice to click on this post and find a name willing to help on short notice. A sticky would be nice and of course your post saying "I'm in". I can look down the list of locations (mine says Virginia Beach, 2 miles from the Stihl plant) and choose a helping hand, after all, we all have the same problem....I need more saws!!!

So I'll start it off, my location is listed and I'm willing to drive upwards of a couple hours to get your saw, as that's how far I'll drive to get one without thinking twice if I want it. Don't send me for a maybe deal, I will check out a maybe deal if it's close but at 1.5 hours...your buying, after all you were going to buy sight un-seen. You make all the arrangements as best you can and tell me the WHOLE deal, NO surprises are waiting when I get there!

I'm a man of my word, I'm not going out there and then telling you the deal fell through or the saw was gone. If you send me..He's holding the saw until I arrive or I'm the first one there, in which case, call and tell him I'm in route. I saw the CL ad and did not want that saw or I would have already left to get it. I'm coming home with your saw, maybe a better price and a guarantee that your saw will be in the mail shortly (couple days). Send me a PM with what you need and I'll send you my :phone: I may even be able to leave work a little early and send you a picture from my cell phone of your new saw....I'll help YOU, will you help ME?

This has been tried before, seems to fizzle out without sticky status.

For what it's worth,I'm in.All of northwest Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma would be my territory. Can't promise anything though,CAD is a selfish, desperate disease.lol

I thought this is where I came for chainsaw help, guess not!

This yeilded many results! Maybe that's why only 2% or less of our counrty serve in the military. I joined to help my fellow man without a direct benefit to me, I did 25 years in the submarine force to make this country a better place......wonder if I did it for the wrong reason. My father said its because most men won't, not that they can't...they just won't help out there fellow man, its just easier to roll over. Turns out all those things he said and I never agreed with are true, I just didn't listen then.

I came for chainsaw help, as least that's what I've read over and over again about getting help.....OH, as long as you don't have to leave your arm chair.

freehandslabber call me anytime you need help friend, I'm in!!!

i would gladly pick up and mail a saw for any AS member with prior arrangement. but i doubt that a day goes by that i don't scan CL through a compiling website looking for that solo rex or wankel dolmar. if you find something in SE GA, let me know.

Yup,,didnt listen to Pop did you ??
nope,,you didnt do it for the wrong reason, you did it for the right reason,,just YOU one of the few to know the reason :)
Yes,,you will find a lot of help here, many knowledgable people..just dont ask them to leave the chair..
you will find most of the help you want from the newbies,,they are still wound up in the CAd thing and will go out of thier way, way more than most..just for the fun of it..
of course realize for somebody to spend hours of time and effort to chase a saw down they may not end up with and if they do the effort to to finish the deal is a bit to ask..also take into consideration thier critique of the saw may not reach the same standards as yours. would haye to send a crap saw and have a member dissapointed..
i wouuld do it if time and resources allowed..
dont expect it from to many tho.
a repository of willing members could be done i suppose..
or just post " anybody in oshkosh pick up this saw for me" ?

what you learn here is that those that have been around here for a while usually have a few "friends" that watch out for each other. it just takes some time to form those network connections.

Right on, my network finds me more saws than I could ever find on my own and they know I would do the same for them.

Just hang around and make some friends, the help starts to come automatically once you start a network. I have gotten help from many here and I have tried my best to give back when I can.

Trusting a total stranger to hold something in this economy? Pretty much a crap shoot. Scan the ads and be ready to jump in the car at a moments notice, it works.

Doesn't take long to make friends here either....I don't have a year in yet and I've had members offer me saws right out of the blue, got a pioneer from Wildman, a homie from StihlyinEly that was basically free, traded a saw sight unseen with volks-man and got the better end of the deal,as far as I was concerned......Mastermind7864 sent me a part as soon as I asked for it. Same with pioneerguy...and so it goes.

You are much better off with a few people you can trust, than a whole bunch of maybe's.

and a CL sellers word to hold a saw is just about worthless.....then what happens?????? it is a good idea, but the devil is in the execution.

This is the same thing that concerns me. Just ask space what he thinks!

Ahhhhhhh yes, the Golden Rule. Where would we be without it? I think there should be a sticky for this and also there should one for needed parts and or saws. I don't mean the tradin' post either, I mean a sticky for people looking for that odd gasket they lost or a free parts saw, something like that.

Awwww what the hell am I talking about, that'd never catch on. JJuday

Upstate NY, time, resources available I'm willing. Something that will fit on my bike is best, but you'd be surprised what I can haul. But you'd better be fast around here because the good ones do not last. I've seen 'em go within a couple hours..............CAD must be spreading.........

Now that I have something to haul chainsaws in, I have access to S.E. Oregon and N.W. CA, so if I can work it in, maybe I can help. There are limits, I won't go to Coos Bay for a plastic mini-motor, of any color.

My SIL gave me this old thing for my upcoming 55th birthday. It will haul chainsaws ok.

I'll cover most of NJ and eastern PA for a member.

I started a similar thread a while back and it fizzled shortly. In time you will know who and where most members are and what they will do for you. Believe me it is much more then you would think. And some of the lesser posting members are the most willing to help out. I suggest you post what you are looking for and sit back and wait till someone finds it under his workbench. Most saws or anything else priced right will sell in hours around these parts. I see stuff thats sitting around or reposted several times are clearly overpriced or over sold.

Oh C'mon, Chris, I think I netted $20 from the Homie! :D :D

Watson, the networking comments are right on. The rate of trustworthiness of AS members is probably not much different than the cross-section of the crews in the subs you served aboard. Some are crooks, some are true standup folks, and most are in between.

Get to know which is which, ask for help from the trustworthy ones when you need it. As with anything else, invest the time and find the reward. The PM function is your friend. :) :)
