Yes hard to know for certain, but there are many signs to look for, and several things to look for; see attached.
Removing every tree in range seem simple and logical, but this approach is not perfect. When you remove one tree, you just increased the exposure, loading and risk of your other trees.
Trees are not merely a threat to be removed--if so, you would not have bought the land in the first place. Trees are assets to be managed, and the basal cut is one technique of many.
o and derwoodii, if you do fly over this spring give me a shout and we'll take a wraptor ride up some big ones. i know of many in that area that have much greater value than kilocalories in the woodstove. :beer:
