Tomorrow, I'm cutting down 3 Locust trees that were in an old fence. Anybody want to take bets on if or when I'll hit a nail or staple?

You reduce your chances if you cut them high...

nails and staples are not that bad, just hope you don't find a horseshoe, they are real tough to get through! trust me I know firsthand.

I got off easy, the landowner wanted me to leave 5' of the tree standing so he can push the stumps over.

if its thorny 3 Locust trees perhaps least of your worries plunge cut and gouge out can be your friend if suspect some hardware about
