I have been meaning to install a plate exchanger for the last 4 years. I finally pulled the trigger on the project and got it done this weekend.
I decided to make a box to house it in. Did not think it was necessary, but I thought it would be nice to insulate it.
I dug around the shop for some scrap wood and came up with the following.
I made a lid for it.
Here it is installed.
I just need to cut the excess foam away to fit the lid and pick up some more insulation for the pex feed and return lines. My daughter took a shower while I was bleeding the air out of the boiler lines and the water heater fired up, it ran for a couple minutes and shut off while I was outside next to the house. I thought she was just done with the shower, nope the air was out of the lines and heating the water!!! Love it.
The working space was kind of cramped, but I am happy with the way things are shaping up.
