Subject: Re: Bill submitted to declare English Ivy a noxious weed

Oh please. I think one of the parts of a noxious weed or an invasive plant is that it needs to be able to jump. By this I
mean that it needs to move around allot by seed. An old garden, now in the woods, with 1/2 acre of English Ivy in it is
no problem to anyone. Just who is doing this stuff?

The city of Portland declared English Ivy a noxious weed several years ago meaning it can't be planted in new landscapes. Ivy kills a lot of trees out here. It grows up the tree and out the branches and blocks the light killing the tree from the bottom up. The end result is a dead tree with the added weight of the ivy. This is a big problem along right of ways where the city, county, state, or property owner can't keep up with the ivy. Lots of dead ivy covered trees leaning toward the roads.
