After reading all the hubub about the Fiskars Super Splitter, I really want one. Only problem is we are building a house and money is tight. I have a gift card from Christmas for Cabelas, so I thought I'd see if they carried Fiskars. They don't, but this Gerber looks identical. Does anyone know if its the same ax, or not? Thanks..

Gerber is a division of Fiskars. I can't tell if that is the super splitter or pro splitter, but it does look like the super.

That looks like the Super Splitter. I can just make out the extra metal just before the head joins the handle.

I didn't know that they were the same ... I'd say go for the Gerber. You will like it!

They both have 28" handles. The difference is the head weight.

I have an email into fiskars trying to find out whats going on with the super splitter. Everyone is out of stock on it. I will update if I get info back.

Thanks guys. After reading all the comments on Cabelas about it, I figured it had to be the same. Some mention the partnership they have. Not the best price I've found, but hey....it's a Christmas present:cheers:

Thought I was asking fiskars but response came from Fiskars online store. They are also out of stock, they were expecting shipments in mid- Febuary and have no idea when they will get them.

Also did some checking and the gerber is only 54 ounces not even 3 1/2 pounds.

If that's the case, it must be the pro and not the super.
Amazon has pro in stock:

Has anybody checked Menard's lately?
That's where I got my Pro in December.

Edit: The Gerber in the picture looks like a Super. Here they are on Fiskars' web site, the Super has a longer head than the Pro:

Sears in Ohio carries the pro, but I cant imagine a 2 1/2 pound mall being effective for me. I guess Ill just have to start using the black powder to split the big stuff....lol.

It's the ms361 of firewood splitting. In addition to busting up the rounds, it makes colonic polyps disappear, cures your dandruff, and will write your PhD dissertation on applied polymers while you drink a beer on the couch!

The smaller Fiskars (the Pro) is nice for inside to split the big quartered pieces up smaller for a small stove, but it point blank doesn't have the weight to quarter big chunks. It has a great niche, but is too small for heavy work.

On a similar note...
Can anyone address the difference between the Gerber Sport Axe #45907 and the Fiskars 14" Hatchet #7850?

Both appear to be identical 14" hatchets, but finding definitive specs on them is difficult-- maybe by design. They both appear to have the same length handle, but their head weight may/may not be the same (Gerber publishes a weight, Fiskars does not).
This may seem irrelevant, but the Fiskars is notably less expensive and I live somewhere they must be mail-ordered so I can't compare in person.

I went to our Menard's and they aren't carrying Fiskar anymore?
